Hello September! Journal with me
I don't speak Swedish, but I use Google translate to read Elsa Billgren's daily blog. I'm taking inspiration from one of her latest entries to jot down a list of reflections on how I want the autumnal months to look for me. Feel free to use the same questions to investigate your own outlook on the coming season... seasonal journalling is such a treat.
Want to leave behind:
Worries and burdens unrelated to my most inner family circle. Self-doubt!
Three focus areas for autumn:
Showering my newborn baby girl with love, taking care of myself, staying close to Pier.

Things I want to find:
Anything that makes a new parent's life easier! Comfy shoes to go for pram walks.

Things I want to tinker with at home:
We just finished a round or renovation, so most big jobs have been done. Minor adjustments include: hanging pictures, new and old; finding new curtains for the living/dining room, hanging curtains back up in the bedroom; browsing for a large rug to go under the sofa.
Places I want to hang out:
My bed! The sofa, and my immediate neighbourhood. I want to feel safe and cosy during the first months of motherhood. Also, Villa's parks when they are wearing their best reds and oranges. In front of my in-laws' smoky fireplace.

This is what I want to radiate in terms of appearance:
Comfort with confidence. I want to pull off a relaxed and comfy mom look. There will come a time for more elaborate clothing, for now I'm looking forward to ease of movement.

Clothes I want to wear:
Black leggings, long socks, soft sweaters and knitwear, cool sneakers.

Make-up/hair/styling:
Make-up will be minimal as usual: mascara for brows and lashes, a bit of dark eye liner, and that's it. Hair need a trimming, but nothing serious, will be mostly worn down, with natural waves, or up in a ponytail.

Shopping list:
2-in-1 washing machine and dryer to help us stay on top with baby laundry; large tv with good audio for all the family movie nights to come; extra large rug in natural fibre to slip under the sofa and make it more comfortable for baby to play; autumn appropriate curtains for the living room to go up instead of the linen ones we have now; baby clothes!

Time to pause doing and activate feeling. Come spring time you'll know what to do.
Should focus on:
Cultivating inner peace, an anchor to keep me grounded when upheaval strikes (it always does, that's just life). Leaning into my feelings.

Will do less of:
Wasting precious energy on what's not essential.

Take on/dare to do:
Re-learning to drive! It's been eighteen years...

Want to cook:
Savoury pies; autumn lasagna with squash and provola / radicchio, walnuts and gorgonzola; French pear and frangipane tart; a very good apple cake.
Want to listen to:

Want to spend less time on:
Making up my mind about everything and anything. Speedy decisions are a blessing.

Something I need in relationships to feel good:
Talking to each other often, tenderness and forgiveness.

With my partner, my baby, myself, my friends.

I want to get better at:
Doing what I say I'd do.

Three key words for my health:
Patience, trust, softness.

5 things for my mental health:
Surrounding myself with the people I will be spending my future with, gentle movement.

5 things for my physical health:
Postpartum recovery, walking, and, when I'm ready, some tailored exercising to strengthen my abs and back. I will look for a licensed postpartum trainer to help me get back into fighting mode.
Happy Autumn,
Sinù xx
