Venice, books and tv shows! December 2024 - part 1
It's been only fifteen days since the new month chimed in and there's already so much to talk about.
In part 1 of this December series I'm sharing snippets from Francesca's first time in Venice (!!) and what I've been reading and watching. As expected, the most festive of the months is always a busy one.
Last Saturday, we took baby Francesca to Venice for the very first time since she was born. I was so excited, but also tense - just the thought of travelling by bus with a pram and a newborn (again, for the first time) felt unnerving. Until we actually got onto the bus and everything went super smoothly! Francesca couldn't stop looking out the window - curious baby.
Venice can be tricky for prams (and wheelchairs), so we had to plan beforehand in order to cross as little bridges as possible to get to our destination: lunch with Lucy and Antony in Campo Santa Margherita.
Lucy is a wonderful home cook, food writer and the director of Alchemic Kitchens, a UK-based organization working with local communities to improve access to fresh seasonal produce. She pops into Venice almost every year and we've been getting together since 2022 now.
A rare family portrait of us courtesy of Lucy. I forgot to take a selfie with her and Antony... and no pictures of food either! Perhaps because I was chitchatting, eating and nursing all at once?
We even ran into my in-laws on our way home. They were beyond happy to see Francesca, of course.
I put these babies in a vase as soon as we got home. Thank you Lucy and Antony!
In December more time spent indoors and off work can only mean more books and TV shows. This year is no different. Here are my most recent Kindle reads and Netflix faves:
- Playing Big by Tara Mohr helps women fight self-doubt and pursue life-changing dreams. This is a suggestion from food writing coach Jenni Muir, whom I couldn't recommend enough.
- The Evan Evans mystery series by Rhys Bowen: a comforting read that I'm revisiting because it's 100% cosy and festive.
- Virgin River on Netflix. In the run up to the new season - coming out next week - I'm re-watching the whole thing from episode one. I don't know about you but this series gives off some serious Gilmore Girls vibes, 2020s edition.
- The Empress on Netflix is another series I've binge-watched recently. Seriously intriguide by the striking costumes and hairtsyles. Looking forward to season three now!
This is all for now. December part two is coming soon with favourite festive thingies and a special delivery from Neroli Vintage.
Take care,
Sinù xx
